1965 Fender Stratocaster L

$18,566.00

Pleased to offer this unique 1962/1965 Fender Stratocaster L-plate. Small headstock, transition logo, 3-way selector, gray bottom pickups and just a fantastic September ‘65 neck and electronics.

The RR stamped on the body under the pickguard and markings on the body show it as a 1962 body yet, with the very unique mustard tint finish only seen in 1965 and ‘65 neck and electronics. This has led me to the conclusion this was a 1962 Stratocaster sent back to Fender factory for a “Refresh and Refinish.”

It was common for Fender owners to send their old guitar to Fender for a refresh. In fact Fender encouraged it to stay up to date! Often, as with this guitar, Fender threw away the ‘62 neck and loaded pickguard, refinished it in early ‘65 with that ‘65 tint finish, then put a ‘65 neck and loaded pickguard on it. That unique tint was only seen in early to mid 1965.

Just a quality 1962/1965 Strat from the pre-CBS and early CBS transition that has it all and sounds incredible. Includes original black/orange no logo case.
